If You Are Going To Buy Cheap Blinds Then Don’t Buy Them At The Dollar Store
You know the old saying “you get what you pay for”, well where cheap blinds are concerned there is no truer statement. You can still get cheap blinds at an affordable price if you are willing to do some looking around. If you plan on putting the blinds in a room that isn’t used that often then by all means go ahead and get the cheapest blinds you can find. If you are putting them in a room that you are going to use all the time then you might want to spend a little more and get blinds that actually work.
I was actually shopping for cheap blinds for my daughters room and the bathroom and somehow I came home with blinds for only the bathroom. I attribute that to lack of focus and a limited attention span. You try shopping with a three year old and tell me how focused you are. Anyway, I made my way to the dollar store and found the perfect set of mini blinds, I bought the white blinds because that was the only choice I had, but hey white goes with everything right? I opened the plastic that contained the cheap blinds and began rummaging through the contents. Now I know that in order to hang the blinds I’m gonna need some screws and I assumed there should be screws with the blinds. Wrong, no screws, there was everything else but the screws. Being a resourceful person I headed out to the garage and found the perfect set of mismatched screws you could ever hope for. One looked long enough to to screw a phone book to the wall but it was all I had so off I went to hang the cheap blinds.
I hung the cheap blinds and “low and behold” I failed to realize that although the width was fine they were about three feet too long. Down came the blinds again. I now had to figure out how to make them shorter without completely destroying the cheap blinds. I found the instructions in the box and there it was, the complete guide to shortening your blinds. It was in every conceivable language except for English. Now I have never seen this before. Everything is always in English, right? Not this time. Off to the internet to search for instructions on how to shorten my cheap blinds. an hour later I was armed and ready to go. Following the instructions perfectly I now had a set of perfectly sized cheap blinds to install in my bathroom.
I hung the cheap blinds again and they worked flawlessly, except for one slight problem. The width was right, the length was right and they went up and down correctly. They even opened properly. So what was my problem? You could see right through them! Now I’m not much of a voyeur so the thought of having see-through cheap blinds in my bathroom just didn’t appeal to me.
I understand that you have to cut corners in order to keep the price reasonable. But why would you cut corners on the blind material. If anything use a cheaper screw or a cheaper draw string. The whole purpose of the blind is to keep people from looking in. Instead of having a cheap blind I had a cheap see-through.
You certainly do get what you pay for. You can definitely get cheap blinds at reasonable prices but not at the dollar store.
